CLIMBERS HANDBOOK TO ENGLAND AND WALES

This is a nationally important title that has been designed to give a complete overview to all the climbing facilities in England and Wales. It is intended for everyone who is interested in climbing, and should provide the basic reference material for beginner to experienced alpinist. It uses as a base of information all the crag, bouldering and wall information from the previously published 'Crag guide to England and Wales.' However, it is now produced as a really modern and funky colour guidebook, with many modern groovy icons that appeal to kids starting out, and amuse the somewhat conservative oldies. It is a real bumper thumper of a reference guide to English climbing

CLIMBING WALLS & SHOPS & CLUBS

The whole area of England and Wales has been split up into 22 different areas that each form a rectangular area map. These are around the major cities of:- Plymouth, Bristol, Guildford, Canterbury, London, Ipswich, Oxford, Gloucester, Cardiff, Bangor, Birmingham, Leicester, Norwich, Hull, Sheffield, Liverpool, Leeds, Doncaster, Keswick, Newcastle, Glasgow-Edinburgh. Each map illustrates all the climbing walls in the area along with all the dedicated climbing shops and associated services such as exhibitions etc. The maps also illustrate outdoor local bouldering venues. In this section, the climbing shops name, addresses and opening times are given, plus an indication to the level of equipment that is stocked from beginner to expert. Local climbing club details are given along with website or contact details.

INDOOR CLIMBING WALLS

The bulk of the part one is given to indoor or outdoor climbing walls. Every public wall in the country is included along with a photograph of over 90% of walls. All opening times and facilities are shown, along with details of pricing and directions for locating the walls. The Jingo Wobbly team visits every climbing wall in the book and does a specific categorisation of a wall into different sectors. This data is then represented in the book and shows the amount of climbing specific to bouldering, Instruction, top roping, leading, competition etc. It also illustrates for each section the texture of the climbing surface, angle, height, number of climbing lines and total number of routes. This huge amount of information will allow any climber to accurately choose a wall for their purpose or desire.

OUTDOOR CLIMBING

This part deals specifically with outdoor natural bouldering and climbing venues. Maps cover all the climbing areas and at an instant illustrate where the bouldering, trad or sport climbing is located in an area. We select usually the best 20-30 venues and give a written summary of each venue. Data for each cliff is given such as height, walk-in time, aspect and number of routes in each grade, etc. All local climbing guidebooks are illustrated and where to buy them. Bouldering venues are given location maps; to get anyone out climbing at every possible opportunity. Access and bird restriction details are given where applicable. Around 50% of the cliffs have illustrative photos.

CLIMBING CONTACTS

At the back of the book is a list of appendixes for useful contacts across the whole spectre of UK climbing. Gear manufactures, insurance companies, boot resole, climbing holds, websites, etc. The book is simply what it offers to be, a completely comprehensive, illustrated handbook.
