OVERVIEW

To the North of this sector is the very soft sandstone of the vosges, with very few pebbles. It is traditionally equipped engagée, be warned. In the mid area around Lutzelbourg, the equipping is much friendlier, and the sandstone is more of a conglomerate style. Most routes are under 25m, and get a reasonable amount of tree shade. The whole area can stay quite damp after very heavy rain. The big cliff of the area is Kronthal, but unless you climb 7a, it is not worth visiting. There are a lot of smaller cliffs that are really lovely, and these are well worth seeking out.
