OVERVIEW

This area is very famous for its big multi-pitch climbs of 7b+. However, there are lots and lots of smaller venues that offer great climbing across all grades, and have pretty straightforward access. Some like Les Gaillands are low in the Chamonix valley, others high up like Colombière. Some have stunning views, others are shaded in the trees. Canapé overlooking Geneve is cool north west facing. The area to the west is the Aravis massif - extending to Lac Annecy. Some of the best cliffs in France are located here, such as Ablon, which should be on most climbers must do list. Some of the cliffs have long walk-ins, the rewards are superb - if the weather is nice.
