HARRISONS ROCKS

GROOMBRIDGE, near Tunbridge Wells: 350 routes in all grades

A wonderful Sandstone outcrop with a huge selection of short and technical routes. The cliff forms two parts, with a third of the routes facing South, and the rest to the West. Trees give an assortment of shade, allowing some routes to dry out in quicker than others.

SUNDAY AMUSEMENT

Our guidebook will put you in good stead to understand the layout of the routes along the edge. We give little parachutes to illustrate where to find the easy ways up and set up a top rope. You will often find many locals here at weekends - who know all the climbs like clockwork. Don't be put off, since they have been doing them for years and have them very well practised. You will be well advised to watch them climb very carefully, since most of the routes have little tricks to them. It is a nice spot for a picnic, and the whole area turns into a fun jamboree sometimes.

VARIATIONS

Our guidebook gives every route here, plus a lot of variations to many. Because of top roping, just about every inch of the rock is climbed - or has been climbed. There are countless other variations that we did not have room to put into the book.

BOULDERING

There is a very small bit of bouldering here, but since the rock is soft, it has tended to wear very badly, and you are reccomended to visit an indoor wall if you really want to start cranking hard.
