ELEPHANT
This is the scary highball city of Fontainebleau. Fear not however because there are a lot of easier problems with lovely flat sandy landings. The rock is generally soft here, and you tend to get problems on good holds, but sloping and with worn footholds. Because the area is one big sandpit, it is very popular with families and those with toddlers. At the weekend it is very popular with picnic-ers, and general petanque enthusiasts.
Certainly bring a couple of crash pads here, and if you want to do the big problems, a top rope is useful too. We cover the blue circuit which is gigantic and is not covered in any other guidebook. We also give you the grades of the top out moves, so you know what to expect on the big highballs.
