PORTUGAL - SPORT ONSIGHT SPORT - FAROL DA GUIA
POSITION: Lovely small 25metre cliffs overlooking the sea, with a mostly non tidal base, just a short distance to the west of Cascais, and before the great surfing beach of Guincho.
Fred Astaire Wall. A purely vertical wall with great face climbing. Sustained and crimpy, but not too crimpy - just right to get pumped since it is technical and non-stop.
Main area - Drops down some steps just below the Gas station and beneath the lighthouse. All full equipped routes - around 100 in the grades 3-7a/b. A couple of harder ones but the emphasis here is on 5-6b routes with very good bolting. Very easy to get to with parking nearby, ideal for a mixed group. Faces south and gets any sun that is going, dries out instantly. The most practical cliff in the area and great fun. Climbing is a serious pastime - but this is about as un-serious as it gets. A few demanding lines though. 50metre rope should do you here.
