PORTUGAL - SPORT ONSIGHT SPORT - POIOS

POSITION: An area just to the north of the very urban town of Pombal. A single cliff that faces south in a remote valley or superb wilderness.

This is the cliff for the 7a-7c climber in Portugal with around 45 superb routes. The rock is that typical orange colour that you often get in Spain, here there seem to be abundant holds, so that the routes are kind with the grades. Very well bolted up in all grades makes this a very pleasant place to visit. The main cliff is nicknamed the Microwave, it toasts you well on both sides and can get very hot in the early afternoon, as you revolve around having fallen off the overhangs. If the wind blows from the north it is protected and gets very warm, usually the westerly just glances the cliff and is a refreshing breeze. A couple of routes too on the shady south side of the gorge. More routes possible on upper sectors.
