Avignon Soleil Topo Guide DENTELLES DE MONTMIRAIL This is the Jewel in the Crown of the crags in the South of France near Avignon. This cliff gets three red stars in our European guide - Sport Vertical, so that should say something: that it compares with the very best there is. Over 700 routes in all grades, but is best in the 6b-7b grades. That said, there are around 100 grade 5 climbs that are excellent. It's just that the majority of stunning lines that go straight up as in the photo - are going to be in the 6c and higher league. The main cliffs are formed from two giant limestone fins that run West to East. SOUTH FACE: This gives some 150 south facing routes 30-100m long, (photo), and is only a 11 min walk from the car (note Ceuse fans). NORTH FACE: This is a very technical area since the rock is smooth and offers few natural jugs, also is very shady and errie. OTHER AREAS: There are other cliffs, introductory cliffs, a superb gorge, the giant cliff/prow of Saint Christophe. Overall it is a superb destination offering climbing all year round.
