Avignon Soleil Topo Guide MÉVOUILLON This is geographically THE most remote section in the guidebook, and certainly feels it. The drive up from Buis takes a good half an hour, or more if you stop for coffee on the way at St. Auban (nice auberge with lovely view from the terrace). As you drive up from the lowlands, the scenery changes and the fields become rich with grass. Soon the alpine trees begin and car heating gets switched on. At 1000m you reach the col of Mévouillon, where the hill and cliffs are seen. Either side of this mini mountain are cliffs. The first cliffs seen from the car are awesome - with huge unclimbed lines, at undoable difficulty. On the West side are around 10 routes, ideally suited for 7a-8a climbers. On the East side - in photo, are 25 routes 4-6c grade, get the morning sunshine, and have an incredible view. It's a quiet and out of the way place, so best kept quiet and look after the environment here. Snowy in winter. Photo: PAS NICK: 6b- Climber: David Atchison-Jones |
